Pitch Lenexa

ONE VOLUNTEER NEEDED!!!

Last Thursday was the first watch party.  Pitch Lenexa gave us great community exposure. There were 2,000+ in attendance with very little to none out of town guests. Great night, Great Game. Talked with 3 interested parties, with a possible guest coming to our Friday meeting.   To volunteer for July 11th contact Phil Hammond.

Visitor from Argentina

At last week's club meeting, we had a wonderful visitor from Argentina, Jose Fernandez. Jose was in Kansas City for the Argentina/Algeria FIFA World Cup match. Jose was a Rotary Youth Exchange Student during the 1987-88 school year, attending Shawnee Mission West. During that time he stayed in the home of PDG Greg Peterson.

Jose returned to Argentina to finish high school, and then returned to Kansas to attend KU, where he majored in Architecture and spent his summers with the Petersons. He finished first in his class at KU, and won a national competition for architectural students. He stayed another year after graduation to prepare architectural drawings for the restoration of Union Station.

Craig Denny was a member of our club during Jose's stay, and hosted a Swedish Rotary Youth Exchange Student who became friends with Jose.

Jose remarked at our meeting that everyone looked a lot older than he did.

Beer/Soda Can Fundraiser!

Sergeant-At-Arms Fred Spears'
Annual Beer/Soda Can Fundraiser

For the past two weeks, Sergeant-At-Arms Fred Spears has been distributing beer and soda cans as part of our annual fundraiser.

Each year, the President-Elect selects a charity to receive the funds raised. Past recipients have included Operation BBQ Relief, school supply drives for inner-city students, and Rise Against Hunger.

This year, President-Elect Kevin Day has selected Rosehill Elementary School in Lenexa to receive our donation, which they will use to support their current needs.

What do I do with this beer/soda can?  The can is used to collect change, dollar bills or a check.

What is the process?  Fill the can - Rinse the can - Dry out the can - Fill with change/bills/check - Write your name on the can - Return to Fred Spears - Receive another can to fill up or just drink.

What is the Deadline?  Return to Fred by
