What is/was your occupation?
I can’t claim a single occupation. I’ve been everything from an assistance store manager at Safeway, to a Wichita police officer, to holding multiple positions at Marion Laboratories from sales representative to a marketing vice president and finally as a partner in a healthcare consulting firm.
What books have had a big impact on you?
There is not one book, but I suppose the overall book is the Bible. Career-wise it would be Michael Korda’s 1975 book Power and How to Use It"
What activities were you involved in high school and college?
In high school I was not well coordinated and weighed less than 115-pounds, so sports were not me. However, I was a manager for the football and basketball teams. I, also, walked the football sideline recording the statistics for each play. While I didn’t play, I did make money from my activities. I telephoned scores to the Wichita newspaper and wrote stories on each game for my small hometown newspaper. Not only did I get paid by the newspapers I also received a grade in Senior English for my reporting. While my friends abused their bodies on the field and court I made money from their efforts.
What is your favorite board game, and do you usually win?
Undoubtedly, my favorite from my childhood was Monopoly, later Trivial Pursuit. I was not so good at winning Monopoly but pretty good at the early version of Trivial Pursuit.
What is the worst movie you have ever seen and who did you see it with?
I’ve switched TV channels many times but only walked out of one paid movie in my life - in 2023 I walked out of Asteroid City.
What pets have you had and what are their names?
As a kid I had several dogs, my favorite, Boot, a Cocker Spaniel. A teenager when she died of old-age, I mourned the morning I found her. As an adult Ballou, a mixed-breed dog my wife and daughters gifted me from Wayside Waifs when I started working from home. I had read in Wall Street Journal that anyone who worked from home needed a dog to talk to.
What is your most prized or sentimental possession? Explain.
My favorite, the electric train I received for Christmas when I was 4-years old. I’d seen the train in a Christmas window display at a Western Auto store. It gave me so much pleasure during my childhood years.
