Our speaker this Friday will be Melanie Arroyo. Melanie was elected to serve as a Ward 3 council member in November 2021, making her the first Latina to join the Lenexa City Council.
Melanie is a graduate of Shawnee Mission Schools and graduated from the University of Saint Mary in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in Studio Art and Psychology. She continued her education at Emporia State University where she graduated with a master’s degree in Clinical Counseling and a master’s degree in Art Therapy.
Currently, Melanie works as a clinical counselor and art therapist, and is the owner of her private practice. She has experience working with children and adults from a range of cultural backgrounds, disabilities and diverse identities.
As a mental health professional trained in trauma informed care and cultural humility, Melanie brings a unique perspective and listening ear to City Council and to the residents of Ward 3.
My dog, Rex, helped pull kale plants at the Community Covenant Church Giving Grove. Then we delivered five bags of the beautiful greens to Shawnee Mission Unitarian Universalist Church pantry. This is part of our club's effort to combat food insecurity in Lenexa. Contact Evelyn Hornaday at evelyn.hornaday@gmail.com if you would like to get involved. This is a great partnership you can participate in at your own pace and schedule!
