VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Pitch Lenexa is proud to host a series of free, independent community events during the 2026 World Cup. This initiative—organized by a coalition of eight Lenexa based companies, which includes Lenexa Rotary —is designed to bring people together, introduce the broader Kansas City community to Lenexa, and celebrate one of the world’s most iconic sporting events in an unforgettable way.

The event series will take place at Lenexa City Center, a vibrant 200-acre hub, conveniently located along Interstate 435 and sitting within a few miles of where I-35, I-435, U.S. 69, K-10 and K-7 meet. This exciting and walkable neighborhood combines shopping, restaurants, entertainment venues, offices, living options and hotels.  For more information CLICK HERE or contact Phil Hammond.

The Village Church Food Pantry (where my wife volunteers) is in need of empty egg cartons for the foreseeable future.  If you have some laying around please bring them to the Friday meetings and I will pick them up.

What is/was your job or profession?
Psychometrician - Educational Psychologist. I developed state and federal civil service , and licensing/certification examinations for 43 years. Before developing any exams we are legally required to a job analysis to determine the most important knowledge and skill requirements. I worked with several groups- including health care specialties, lighting designers, sports field developers, personal trainers and strength coaches. My two most “interesting” groups were civil service exams for prison guards and licensing exams for funeral directors. I know just enough to be dangerous about many occupations - but way too much about embalming!

What is your favorite sports team(s) and why?
Depends on the season - For fall to February it’s the Chiefs; for late fall to early spring winter it’s the Fighting Illini basketball, for spring to early fall (and sometimes October) it’s the Royals

What is your favorite vacation destination, and why?
Any location with an Ocean beach - e.g., Costa Rica and most Caribbean islands. I find the ocean is a great stimulator for “meditation”

What is your ideal sandwich?
When I worked in Philadelphia there was great sandwich shop (in a basement) right next to a park. I would always get a tuna hoagie - albacore tuna salad , thinly sliced onions and tomato, lettuce, and boiled eggs on a freshly baked Italian roll.

Close behind was a Philly cheesesteak at Pat’s "King of Steaks" in Philly. You could watch the grill master quickly fry thinly sliced steak, caramelize the onions, and place it in a freshly baked Italian roll with provolone cheese. Assembly took less than 5 minutes!

If you are at a trivia night, what category would you know most about?
You would not want me on your team - unless the topic was vintage stereo speakers and electronics!
