Our speaker this Friday will be Matt Tomasic with the Kansas City Kansas Police Athletic League.
All across America, Police Athletic Leagues have fostered strong relationships between the police and the communities they serve, especially with young people.
Here in Kansas City, Kansas they couldn't be more proud of their community and the opportunity to create new connections with young people. Each of us can remember that one coach, mentor, teacher or adult who took the extra time to invest in us. This is at the heart of the PAL KCK mission, to be worthy role models for young people growing up in our city today.
More than just fun activities, they want to help KCK kids build the self-confidence, leadership and problem-solving skills needed to thrive in today's world. They are eager to see them grow and then reinvest their gifts back into their community.
It is that time of year again -- our annual Beer Can Collection!

Rinse out and dry the beer can
Fill the can with coins, dollar bills or a check (made payable to the Lenexa Rotary Foundation)
Write you name on the can
Return to Fred Spears and he will give you another beer
WE NEED VOLUNTEERS THIS SATURDAY! We will be helping the Lenexa Historical Society in their food booth at the Spinach Festival. Please contact Phil Hammond if you are interested in helping.
Last year we participated in an event assembling 448 women’s hygiene kits for Heart to Heart International. On August 14, 2021, a 7.2 earthquake struck Haiti, killing thousands of people and impacting many more. HHI Disaster Response team, in conjunction with their Haitian team, is sending our pallet to Haiti. These kits will be so important to the women and communities in need of hygiene items and menstrual products. They sincerely appreciate our group coming together to build these hygiene kits.
Sergeant-At-Arms, Fred Spears will be selling Fine Cards for the next month. The cost is $65 and checks should be made payable to Lenexa Rotary Foundation.
Show this card when Fred comes around to collect $1 from each member and you are good to go! It also covers any other fines -- birth of a child or grandchild, or if you were seen in the news.
Checks can be given to Fred at Friday meetings or you can mail him a check : 12016 Westgate, Overland Park, KS 66213.

In 2017, Rotary International took on the call to End Human Trafficking. You are invited to earn your Human Trafficking Awareness badge from Justice U. In one hour, you will learn what human trafficking is, how to see it, and how to report it. And if you want to earn your full digital certification by taking all three courses offered in the Learn How to End Human Trafficking series on Justice U, you can use the code ROTARYSWARM to gain free access to these courses + even more resources from Engage Together, our partners in this effort. Given the success of the Community Peace Pole Art Project and auction to raise money for Project 1020, what future community/Rotary partnership projects would you like to see undertaken with partnership of Lenexa and Western JOCO Rotary Clubs?
We are collecting egg cartons to be given to a local food pantry. They only need the 12 egg cartons, not 18.
If you have some to donate, please contact Steve Nettles. You can drop them off at his house, bring them to a meeting, or drop them off at Rimann Liquors at 87th & Lackman.
To date, we know the majority of Clubs in District 5710 have indicated they will work to meet their goal of $50 per member: As a Bonus, District 5710 has committed $4,000 to help fund this effort.
Rotary is working with the County to develop a permanent signage/recognition element for the Tree Grove to memorialize this Rotary gift to the people of Johnson county - hopefully listing the participating clubs.
The current February membership count of the Johnson County Clubs is 587 Rotarians. At $50 per member, the District could easily reach a total of $29,350. There will be a prize for the club with the most significant percentage over their goal. The Lenexa Rotary Foundation has pledged $1000 but is requesting a $50 donations from all members. All contributions from club members are voluntary. It is our hope that we will reach the $50 goal.
Please make your check out to "The Lenexa Rotary Foundation" and send your check to:
