Our speaker this Friday will be Steve Holley with KC Bier Company.

KC Bier Co, Kansas City’s award-winning German-style brewery, will be opening one of the largest and most authentic Bavarian-style Biergartens in the USA in early 2026 near 98th Street and Ridgeview, Lenexa, KS in Vista Village by West Star Development. Construction has started!

The two-acre site will include a large Bierhalle, showcase brewery, event space, covered patio , and Biergarten with a children’s play area and an off-leash dog zone. The Biergarten will include an amphitheater.

Fire Safety Trailer

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The beginning of October will mark the start of the Fire Safety Trailer visits at Lenexa-area elementary schools in honor of Fire Safety Month. We try to provide a "morning" and "afternoon" Rotarian volunteer for each school visit.

Many of you have volunteered before and know the drill. For those that haven't, we assist the firefighters as they take 3rd graders (fire safety) and 5th graders (severe weather) through the trailer in 30-minute slots. The firefighters do all the talking and crowd control; Rotarians simply support them from a little control room by answering faux 911 calls, operating the smoke machine, etc., and resetting "fire hazards" between classes. There isn't much for us to do for the severe weather presentations. If you haven't volunteered, either the volunteer before you or the firefighters can show you what to do.

I have updated the shifts with specific class times, noted below in blue. You will note your start time may be later, there may be gaps during your shift, and in an isolated instance your shift may run later by 30 minutes. Kelsey, the PM shift at Rising Star on 10/16 has been eliminated entirely.

You'll note I have written (severe weather?) after some class times. Those are single classes that have a time gap before or after them -- I am going to check with the Fire Department as to whether those are 5th grade severe weather classes, where there really isn't much for us to do and, because there is a gap before or after, volunteers perhaps don't need to be there/stay for that single class since we mostly observe. Stay tuned.

Please update your calendars accordingly, and let me know if there is a problem.

We still have two shifts we'd like to fill, one on 10/3 and one on 10/8!
